Concert at the Fishtank July 16My main summer performance project is this Fridays concert at The Fishtank Performance Studio in downtown KCMO. I'll be premiering a new work for
oboe and multi percussion-'Prayer Call for Simurgh'. Also on the show are a few works for violin and guitar. Then I'll read some poetry and play a few guitar instrumentals to close out the show. I'm very happy to be receiving these performances from some young and talented musicians. Thursday, May 13th, 2010 3:49 PM CDT
Spring into summerThe winter got by me completely with no posts or blogs so I thought it was time to put a few thoughts down here. REcent shows have been interesting including opening up for Jeff Beck, well sort of, I played the VIP area at least at Starlight for his show a couple of weeks back.
Last weekend May 8th I reunited with Danny Cox,one of my longest standing musician friends here in KC for a show at The Writer's Place. We had a nice crowd and response so that was a highlight of the spring for me so far. I will take reception of a new full length keyboard for my studio in a couple of days. This is part of a rebuilding of my electronic music studio that has fallen apart over the alst few years. New songs and instrumentals keep rolling in every few weeks as always. A recent song for the baritone guitar is entitled City of Doom, ala Conan. lol Well thats about it for, best wishes to all who come here. Kevin Sunday, December 27th, 2009 5:03 PM CST
closing out the yearWell here is my closing blog for the website for 2009. This year I have managed to write to new guitar solos- 'Kung Fu Enlightenment', and
'Devil Sticks Anyone'. Also finished work on 'A Little Secret' for the People's Liberation big Band, nos have to finsih the parts, sigh. A late year project is a new art song for soprano and piano 'The Nest' which sets to my own music lyrics originally by Jimmie Spheeris from his early 70's album Isle of View (say that real fast) lol the song is almost five minutes long and features some my freshest sounding harmonies of recent vintage. Still looking to publish my edited poetry book- 'Prayer Flags' Early November saw the purchase of a Yairi-Alvarez jumbo baritone guitar. Rep for that instrument is slow in coming due to all the other projects. 2009 saw me playing over 45 gigs in KCMO including a Kc Fringe Fest gig at the KC Club! Overall a productive year. Best wishes to all who come hear to my site in the new year 2010. kevin Monday, November 9th, 2009 8:56 AM CST

Raglan Road on Saint Patricks day, other gigsAs we get a little further into the new year I find myslef playing some fun gigs, often with the feeling of deja vu as in a recent night at the newly restored Chaz restaurant in the Raphael Hotel. I can remember going there on a certain easter sunday at another time and era in my life.
Saint Patrick's day will find me playing for my breakfest and possibly drinking a little 'whiskey for breakfest' at 10am in the morning. That day I'll be at Raglan Road one of the nicest Irish Pubs in KC. Lot of old wood and marble went into that place making you feel like you are in Dublin circa 1890's. Finally as the month ends I'll be playing a concert for the Kansas City Guitar Society on Sat feb. 28th at the downtown KC Public library. My former teacher Doug Niedt will be there so I'm practicing up. For all dates see the calender for more info. Thanks to all who come to this site. best Kevin Hiatt Tuesday, January 13th, 2009 9:52 AM CST

End of the year newsThe year is winding down for me here in Kansas City.
Due to my ankle injury back in October I don;t have to many gigs on the schedule other than some holiday parties. Look for me to get back in the swing of bar gigs in the new year. Back on Nov. 12 I heard the premiere performance of my orchestral work 'A Tyger Ascending the Mountain' by the KU Medical Arts Symphony under the direct of one of my former UMKC professors Dr. Merton Shatzkin. Recent new works include a song for tenor and guitar and a work in progress for the People's Liberation Big Band. Happy Holidays to all who come to my site. Monday, August 4th, 2008 3:39 PM CDT
Late Summer NewsThe dog days of summer are upon me here in KC.
A week or so ago I had a busy week of concerts on the KC Fringe Festival. Six concerts in all, alternating between a solo show, Guitar Summit and Crossover Quartets which presented an evening of string quartets I've written over a 20+ year period. I was joined on the Guitar Summit concerts by Beau Bledsoe a very talented flamenco guitarist and Steve Gouge Chet Atkins style picker. The Quartet Classique, a quartet of young string players from the KC and Lawerence area performed the world premiere of my 'Lachrimae Tears that Fell Upon the Prairie', as well as several other works. Right now I'm on a deadline to finish the parts for my orchestral work 'A Tyger Ascending the Mountain' which will be premiered this fall. Also turning 52 next week. |
